So i made my map about the places i have been to watch my brother play baseball!
All of the places, in the last couple of years, that i have got to go because of my brothers baseball! A very common factor in all of these places is the great shopping i got to encounter!
There are so many more that i could put, but i only put the ones that had some significance to me haha! I looovee baseball, and my family has always made me watch my brother play, so i like to support him! haha im so proud! but! it pays off because i get to go cool places:)
I spent quite a while exploring the different podcasts on iTunes and i found a whole bunch that are called IndieFeed. There a whole bunch that are from different genres of music, and this podcast basically plays a song from that genre per podcast. I subscribed to pretty much all the genres, as i love music, and found lots of songs that i really enjoy but probably never would have heard of! They are all bands that aren’t big, but have great work. At the end they also give a bit of a bio about the band so it was interesting to hear the music but hear what that band has accomplished and what they are working on!
the other podcast i subscribed to was Two Tech Chicks. This podcast is tips and tricks for gadgets and software for your difital life given by two Texas chicks obsessed with anything digital. The podcast is geared specifically to educatiors interested in integrating technology into their curriculum. Companion blog, forums and resources at Tech Chick Tips This blog was really cool because it talked about different online tools and how they could be used in a classroom. It was very much like our class, and was interesting to hear from another perspective, gave me more ideas.
So i keep on forgetting to blog! And i remembered i had to blog about my other classroom! This classroom is really awesome because its from a school I am familiar with, has kids in it that i actually know, and my best friend told me the teacher is awesome and she seems like it so far!
I have zero experience with wikispaces so it is kind of cool to be able too learn how to use a new tool, but I find it difficult to get involved with the class!
So instead of commenting on their blogs I have made a comment introducing myself, and made a comment about one of the assignments they were working on! Hopefully they will blog back, like a couple of them have, and it will help them to do their assigment!
Cyberbullying is just crazy. The things you can do to people with technology just ampliphy what you can still do face to face. It complicates bullying, and creates a way where you just cant seem to hide from it. You can’t control the texts you get, the emails you recieve, the facebook comments that get posted… unless you remove yourself from it completely! And doesnt that just defeat the point of having it to begin with?
People take things way to seriously that are said over chats etc, and its so ridiculous because people have way more confidence saying something over msn than face to face, sooo people will say whatever they want!
If your going to fight you should do it in person… if someone cant stand up to me if they have a problem, and cant do it to my face, they shouldnt even bother because i would just ignore anything else. I have no problem confronting people to their face and saying what is on my mind and i expect nothing less from everyone else… you have to stand up for yourself, your never going to gain confidence doing it on the internet or in texts.
some people use the internet as a way to get away from the world that taunts and hurts them, and when they are being bullied in that world as well its just another place that they feel left out of and unsafe in.
A movie that really has impacted me is this movie odd girl out. It was a made for tv kind of movie, it had alexa vega in it and i rented it once. It is all about bullying, and i watched it with about ten other girls. Everyone seems to have their own views and experiences with bullying so we all had mixed opinions about the movie and it lead to like a three hour long discussion and i was just raging i got so defensive it was crazy! but yes this movie is good, i have a link below if you want to watch it and tell me what you think! ok!! so the university had a book sale a couple weeks ago and i pretty much went crazy because books were like 3 dollars soooo i now have a large amount of books to read! And today i decided that alanna is going to switch books with me (haha i said decided because im so very nice and said she had to lend it to me instead of asking haha… sooo kind) because she is reading a book i really wanted to buy the other day! i dont even remember what its called anymore haha alanna knows
haha and it is pretty weird that im blogging about books like twice in the last couple weeks but really i love them so much! haha!
What prompted this blog was when i saw the movie trailer for Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. That is like one of my favorite books, i loved it so much! I’m really excited now because hopefully they dont ruin it with the movie!!!
So now I want to see what peoples favorite books are! i have sooo soo soo many! Twilight series by stephenie meyers is probably my favorite! It has become such a huge deal its crazy!!! i was soo obsessed when i started reading them sooo long ago, and made everyone i know read them, and now its huge and so many people have read it its amazing! Im pumped for that movie too! haha her other book The Host was really really good too!
A really good website to look for books, and find out if a book is part of a series or has a sequal is Fantastic Fiction haha i go on there a lot!

-These are books like Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging, which was made into a movie, and all the books that came after it! They are british humour books but they are pretty funny! They are really easy reads though haha i read them in the time i would watch a movie haha, but still once i started i couldnt stop and read them all!

-There are four books and i borrowed them from a friend who never reads, and they were pretty good i enjoyed reading them! And i enjoyed that my friend was actually reading a book

Right now i really want to read Kiss Of Death by Marcus Sedgwick! I have read all of the books i could get by him, and this is a sequal to a book a read in the summer. I bought his books because the covers were a really cool texture, haha which sounds really bad, but he is a very good author and i loved all his books.

ok! so i am going to make a digital portfolio!!! in the past i have used a site called career cruising, but that was when i was in school and the school paid for the students to use it… which i guess i can’t do now. Sooo i am trying to find the best way that i can make an online portfolio or just one on the computer!
We have to make a portfolio for our EPS100 class, and i already have a hardcopy one, but a digital one would be sooo much easier to update!
I got the idea from being in the classroom for me EPS class! The teacher was talking abut how schools in regina are starting making students make portfolios in like grade eight on the career cruising site, then throughout all of the rest of their schooling career they can update it, and switch their accounts from school to school! This creates such a better start, especially for students who don’t make them till late high school or even start in university! I made mine because i was in a career and work explorations class, and my mom had saved almost everything i needed for it (being a teacher she knew it was worth it to keep those things organized) and without it i would have worked on the project for months and months! When kids start this early they will be able to keep things organized and it will be way easier to make resumes etc! The teacher i was with was talking about how the idea that when you go to apply for a job you would just be able to give them your usb key and they have your organized portfolio!
I want to transfer mine into a digital one, and am looking for ways to do that! any ideas? haha
This kid is sooo adorable! videos come up on my homepage and this was one of them and i loved it so much i had to put it on here for everyone to see! This kid is like four years old! He amazes me
Ok so it has taken me a while but I have started blogging in the classes I am supposed to be mentoring! The one class only has five students, and I am REALLY excited about this class! For one thing, they have all been blogging about math, and that is what I am going to major in! For another it is the grade I think I want to teach! Because the class is so small I will be able to read all their posts and should really get to know some things about these students! So far I have read a handful of each of the students blogs and am excited to continue! Also the teacher seems really nice so I am just all round glad about getting this class!
I havent figured out the other class yet, how to blog with them etc. but when I do i will definitely write a post about their class too!
I could blog about books for days… i love reading! I hav like forty books in my room to read right now. I swear i go to chapters like once a week, and i go on Chapters everyday! haha i know, seems crazy but i do! Websites like Amazon are great for finding books that are similar to books you like! So today while browsing books on amazon i decided to check out the Kindle!
The Kindle is an expensive little number that is the ipod of books. I dont really know what to think of it, because i love books… the feel, the cover, the smell, the everything! The Kindle is a wireless reading device. You can buy books to store in them and read, and the screen is supposively just like paper! This really could be awesome… all books would pretty much be the same price, and you can get them instantly to your own personal virtual library! I think if I had a kindle I would love it like most people love their ipods (ahem im one of those people)!
But there could be some bad things that go along with this… for one, what if what happened to music happens to books. What happens when people start hacking books and can download them to their kindle without buying them. I feel for artists who make their money on music, but not even close to as much as authors! All authors have is their books pretty much, unless they make a movie… artists can have concerts and merchandise and advertising… what do authors have? The thirty dollar hardcover that goes on the shelf in stores everywhere! Unlike artists, by people previewing an authors work, like reading an entire novel, they are getting the publicity out but that could be as far as it goes! Some authors only ever have maybe one novel, and if it has been read, the chances of someone buying that to reread it, or because they loved it are small… wheras with an artist they could hear one song then want to go buy the entire album.
The kindle and the store for buying books seems like something i would do all day! you can read the first couple of chapters of any book, which would keep me interesting forever! You can also subscribe to magazines and newspapers, i think, which would be really cool too! You can subscribe to blogs too!
I dont really know much about the kindle, but the fact that i really want to try one makes me want to learn as much about it as i can!!! Does anyone know anything? because i would LOVE to hear feedback!
So i added a whole bunch of blogs to my google reader, mostly teacher related things because I wanted to get a feel of how teachers are using these tools in the classroom. One blog i added was a person who actually came and did a lecture in my EPS class, Alex Couros
He did a really good job at presenting to our class so i went and read some of his blog posts and came across a blog post that really caught my attention: Self Child-Pornography This was a blog refering to an article about a young girl who sent pictures of herself nude to her classmatess. The consequences of this act are very critical! She could be registered as a sex offender for twenty years!
What i dont understand is why a girl, or any person, would want to put pictures of themself on the internet. It is such a desperate cry for attention, it is sad! Also, it seems like the punishment is almost unfit, because she is getting charged as a sex offender. Of course she was the one who was distributing the child pornogrophy, but it seems contradictory to charge someone underage with a charge that is used to protect people underage. If it is her that is putting the pictures out, it is her offending herself, but she has made that choice… but is still adding to the mass amounts of child pornogrophy in the world! I have mixed feelings because it seems contradictory yet needs to be punishable, but maybe that way needs to be modified. I mean, if a underage girl sends her underage boyfriend a picture of herself in compromising situations, is that something that would be charged for sex offender? If so… there would be many many more charges… Or did this girl who got charged get the punishment she did because she sent it to so many people.
What if a girl sent that picture to one person then that picture got leaked throughout the community… would she be the one charged?
I know that there was a girl in my community that used to send pictures like that to pretty much everyone… and she was like in grade eight… it was terrible. Should she have been charged? Maybe if she would have, she wouldnt have turned out the way she did, and would have been more careful about the image she set herself up to have.
Not only was i interested in the topic, but i saw different ways of blogging! It was thought provoking and engaged readers to form their own opinions on the subject! As a teacher I want to be able to do that with my students everyday.
